The Shopping Cart.

In my three years in Provo I have found a favorite of mine. I have lots of favorites, but one of the top 5 is grocery shopping. I love it. I love going with friends, dates, or just by myself. When I think back, I have always loved grocery shopping. Just ask my mom. Everytime she would get her purse to go to the store I would be right there with her. I dont know why I love it so much. It might be my love for food and cooking. Or it might just be seeing all the new fresh packages of food I could potentially buy and eat later.

It is funny thinking about what you buy at the store. Everyone is different and everyone has their staples that they can't leave without. When going through the checkout line yesterday the cashier lady said to me, "I wish I had time to shop this healthy. I just run through and grab anything my kids will eat." I then looked at my groceries as they slid through the checkout. Grapes, pretzles, Honey Nut Cherrios, eggos, orange juice, frozen chicken, string cheese, mac n cheese, devils food cake mix, and wheat thins. I don't think those items count as totally "healthy". Then I thought, what groceries does she buy? Oreos and gushers? Then I thought, wait, I wish I could shop like that...

I buy the exact same things when I go to the store; give or take a few spoils. For instance, this time at the store I bought orange juice. I don't think I have ever bought orange juice once since I moved here. It's expensive and a waste of calories sometimes. But I was cravvvving it so I bought it. Also, Eggos. Growing up we always had Eggos in our freezer. So I bought them for old times sake. And my stomach greatly appreciates that buy. I forgot how yummy they are!

Sometimes I wish I could be the cashier lady who helped me. It would be so fun to just go through the store and buy anything you want! Gushers, oreos, fruit loops, chocolate milk, mint chip ice cream, klondike bars, frozen garlic bread, donuts, fudge shoppe cookies, frozen onion rings, chicken nuggets, soda, ruffles, chips and salsa...the list could go on. But at the same time shopping by myself has helped me realize the importance of a store budget and shopping healthier.

Moral of this blog post, I love the grocery store. One thing I miss about good ol' Danville: Safeway. Best grocery store out there. What are your grocery store staples??

rachel! i think there is something profound about grocery shopping for your allotted cupboard or shelf in the fridge when you're in college. you feel so empowered! i never seem to be able to leave the store without fruit and cereal. they always work!

This is so great! I especially love the badgal shopping list of chocolate ice cream and treats!!

My shopping list usually includes tortilla chips, guacamole, pom pomegranate juice, pita chips and hummus, pastas, tomatoes, basil, pbj stuffs, spinach salad mix, OJ, break n bakes, goldfish, olive oil and vinegar, and berry tie dye fruit by the foot.

So I think this means I'm torn between five year old aubrey's tummy and mature aubrey's tummy, and both are too indulgent. Thanks for forcing me to take a hard look at my grocery list!
