Yes. You heard me. CHINA. I am going to China. I will be teaching little 5 year old chinese kiddies the English language. I couldn't be more excited and nervous all at once! One of my bestest friends from high school is coming with me, Kim Blatter. China better be ready for Kimchel (Rachel+Kim).
I will be there from August-December. So a little over 4 months. Cra. Zay. It will be such a great experience for me. It will be hard work, a culture shock, and I will most likely miss the US of A...BUT it's going to be great. Everyone that has gone in the past that I have talked to loves it, so I know I will love it as well.
I am going through a program called ILP (International Language Programs). They send people like me to China, Russia, and Mexico to do this wonderful opportunity. I will be living in dorms on the school's campus where I teach these children. I will eat crazy foods like fried scorpion. I will see The Great Wall of China (not to be confused with The Great Wall of Chocolate from PF Changs). I will get to travel all over China and meet so many great people! And I will get to teach my wonderful language to cute little kids.
I am all paid and have all my papers in. Now I just have to be assigned to a city. They narrowed it down to three cities where I might be living and teaching.

We are hoping to go to Zhongshan because it's the warmest and a great central location. They will assign us on June 15th so I will keep you all posted when I find out! Zai jian! (goodbye in chinese)

this is seriously the adventure of a LIFETIME!! going abroad is the best thing I ever did in college (of course I was only gone for five weeks not 4 months!! It's going to be life changing and incredible). You should watch big bird in china with kimmy before you leave. One of my childhood faves and I still LOVE it...Im that nerdy:) I hope you can blog or email so we can all cheer on this amazing experience!
