I am currently sitting at this cute new coffee shop in provo, "The Coffee Pod", taking a break from writing a history paper and eating a delicious chocolate muffin. I was just looking out the window and saw two teenage skater boys fly by on their skateboards. Shortly after three teenage girls followed in their tracks on foot. I immediately thought of my summer after my sophmore year in high school and the years to follow.
For some reason my girlfriends and I took a liking to a group of skater boys at our high school. We had crushes on a few of them. The skater look was in during my high school generation. Long hair, bright skater brand clothes, and the "I don't care" attitude. (We were young, don't judge us.) For a whole summer we followed these boys around without their consent. They mostly hung out in the parking lot of Panda Express in Danville skating the night away. Us girls would dress as skater as we could, drive to Panda and sit there and watch them. We would talk to them and pretend to be their friends even though they couldn't care less if we were there or not.
After much stalking and convincing, these boys became our friends. Two of them even dated two of my best friends. We finally were accepted into their group and they liked us watching them skate. We were cute girls, how could they not? ;) They just needed some time to realize it. Nights at Panda turned into ping pong wednesdays, wakeboaring on Kim's boat, Prom, eating lunch together at school, and becoming really good friends. I only keep in touch with a few of them now but some of my best high school memories were with these boys.
To this day, us girls can't drive past Panda without glancing into the parking lot to see if they are there. Old habits die hard.
