I want to take an asian child home with me. They are the cuuutest kids in the whole entire world. Especially the two little boys in my homeroom class. Their English names are Chase and Drew. Chase is so smart and already knows a little bit of English. I can’t get enough of his little giggle. Drew is such a sweetheart. Every day we meet our kids out in the hall and he runs up to me waving and smiling so big. It melts my heart. I wish I could upload pictures because these explanations just don’t do them justice.
Teaching is so much different than what I thought it would be. It is difficult, hilarious, and exciting all at the same time. I love it when you can see the kids progressing in just 2 short weeks of teaching. It makes me so proud and to think that they are learning because I am teaching them. This 21 year old blonde girl from America that has never taught a day in her life. It’s still crazy to me, but I love it.
There are two teachers to a classroom, each classroom contains around five kids. There are four classrooms on each floor. Each class teaches for 20 minutes and then rotates. So we teach for about an hour and a half each day. We have our homeroom and opening classes that we go over the weather, the date, and sing songs with to get them started. They loooove “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes”. After only a few days they could name all of those parts of the body! They are such smart kids!
There are a few kids that are a little bit out of control…Matt and Ringo…to name a couple. Matt and Ringo are in the same class and they make those 20 minutes a living nightmare. Ringo always speaks Chinese in class which is not allowed. If they speak Chinese at any point we have to say, “No Chinese…” and point them to go sit in the “Chinese Chair”. After a few days Ringo got the hang of it and started to rebel back. He would look me in the eye and with a mocking tone of my voice he would copy me and say, “No Chiiiiinneeeeseeee hahahaha!” It was ridiculous. Ringo has so many emotions. One minute he will be jabbering off in Chinese because he is mad about something, and then next he will be bawling his eyes out because he is sad. I feel bad for him most of the time. None of these kids see their parents very often and are probably feeling neglected.
I love seeing my students outside of class. We all eat dinner in the same building but at different times. They come to eat after we are done and they get so excited to see us! “Hello Teacher!!! Hi Teacher!!” I love feeling loved by them. They are the best.
More to come on my crazy, stressful, wonderful, and amazing weekend in Beiijing. Get ready…haha.
