the night market.

The night market never gets old. We were just saying tonight that we never get tired of walking down the same street with mostly the same vendors and the same food each weekend. There are so many interesting things to look at, laugh at, and maybe even buy. We go to the night market every weekend and sometimes once during the week. If any of you have seen my pictures on facebook, I have many at this market of the night. I wish that all of you could go there and experience it first hand. Words cannot explain the atmosphere.

There are about a hundred dozen different food vendors with the most crazy food kabobs you could ever imagine. Squid? Check. Live larva looking bugs? Check. Starfish? Check. Sea slugs? Check. Bird heads? Check. Do these people actually eat all of those things, you ask? Yes, yes they do. It is actually funny when they point to things and ask if we want to buy them.

We have become regulars at the night market. At first we were these new exciting white girls that everyone stared at. Now we are just those white girls that come twice a week. We have discovered some great cuisine there that I would not be able to go a week without. The first ever thing I tried was a bowl of noodles. These aren't just any noodles. They are fried noodles with sprouts, spinach, scrambled egg, and lots of oil and soy sauce. It's pretty much noodle heaven. We know the man and his wife personally that make them. They love us because we always come back. It costs about 60 cents for a huge bowl of them. I might have mentioned these in a post earlier? You can see how much I love them.

Then there is the Waffle Lady, as we like to call her. She has a little stand with a waffle iron and then another waffle iron in the shape of a fish. She makes regular waffles which are tasty and delicious. And then she makes these waffles in the shape of a fish, and we are pretty sure she stuffs some kind of fish goope into them. Those are nasty and we never purchase those. But we usually get a waffle for dessert.

We usually take a stop at the bakery booth. They have weird looking cookies and muffins, but we stop for the creme puffs. They are GREAT.

At the beginning of the market there is a stand that these middle eastern looking men sit at selling this yummy bread that I usually get to go and eat with nutella the next morning in my dorm.

Recently there has been an old man that makes kettle corn and chocolate popcorn and sells it in bags for 4 yuan (50 cents). I have been a frequent customer with him lately. He always makes me a fresh batch whenever I come walking up. Such a nice chinese man.

And just today we found something so delicious. We call it the fajita meat pie. It's the closest thing to mexican food we will ever get. It is really yummy shredded meat, green peppers, onions, and some yummy sauce stuffed into pita bread. So so so good.

So basically I eat carbs all day...thank goodness for yogurt and fruit at the jayjaiyue grocery store.

The night market is also packed with jewlery, shoes, clothes, and other fun stuff I bought a super cute dress just the other day for about 5 bucks. There is a DVD store with questionable legality (is that a word? it is now). I got the whole collection of Friends DVD's for about $30.

There is just something about the night market that is exciting and fun. It's always hoppin and a ton of people are there, but not too many that it is overcrowded and annoying. There is always something new to look at or possibly laugh at. Ex: A man rode by on his bike with a basket on the back of baby chicks dyed neon pink, yellow, and green.

Got to love China.
