Today I have been followed around by some mean bullies. Ok, actually they are yellow-jackets but to me they are the same or even worse than bullies. This morning I let my dog out to go to the bathroom and on the ground I saw what looked a mini volcano. Then two yellow-jackets popped out and flew away. It was the opening to a nest!
Then I decided I would go in the pool and maybe lay in the sun for a while. My plans were ruined as I walked down our rock steps in our backyard only to find atleast 15 yellow-jackets flying around! I screamed and ran inside the house. Haha now I know this may sound a little childish but I really am afriad of these things! It might have to do with the fact that I have never been stung before...
I went downstairs to get a better look at where these yellow-jackets nest were. I stood looking out the window for a good 20 minutes following their flights. I came to the conclusion that there is another nest in the backyard hiding under one of the rocks in the path.
Later I got out of the house and starting driving to Target to do some shopping. I stopped at the gas station to fill up. I got out of the car and starting pumping. Then all of the sudden I look down and a yellow-jacket is just hanging out on the bottom of my shirt! I scream and run away from my car almost on to the street. I didn't even care about the snickering I got from some workers filling up their car.
I got home from Target, and rode my bike to the library. As I was walking into the library I almost stepped on a yellow-jacket. Then he got angry to he decided to follow me into the library! Luckily he flew out of the door before it closed. Now I was just mad. These yellow-jackets just wouldn't leave me alone!
I called my mom and told her my concern about the nests in our yards. She told me to call my Dad and tell him.
Now asking my Dad to help with something is kind of like praying. You have to do your part first and then you will recieve help. So I went online and typed in "How to Kill Yellow-jackets" on Google. I found a great website telling me everything I need to know about them and how to kill them. (http://nene.essortment.com/howtokillyell_rfln.htm)
Then I emailed my Dad and told him the issue and gave him the website. I am leaving for California tomorrow so I won't have to deal with these little buggers for a while. Good luck Dad!

that is so scary!! But you hit the nail on the head about dad!! It's like you ask, then wait, and wait, and have faith the answer will come. The answer usually does but it's through someone else, aka mom. :) Just like a pray.
Love that Jeff comment. Too True.
I hate, no loathe yellow jackets too. They are the rats of the bees. I hope they are gone before I come up there!!
Rach, I think your fears are totally legit. I am totally allergic to all bee stings, and anytime one comes near I pretty much freak out and run away. So you shouldn't ever feel stupid; they ARE bullies!
Be careful!
A few years ago, I got stung several time on the tongue. Don't ask me how, I guess I was mowing the lawn with my mouth opened.
We hired pros to come and kill them. The guys was wearing a full-on suit for protection. Even still, the yellow jackets vicously went after him.
Better call your dad!
