ya'll.

This post is a little overdue. About a week ago I got back from a wonderful trip to Washington DC and North Carolina. Thanks to my wonderful mother, I got to see all of the US history sights I have been learning about all summer. We spent a few days in Virgina/DC and a few days at the beach in North Carolina with some dear family friends.

We went to the little town of Alexandria first and had fun walking around and eating yummy fried fish and ice cream. Price found a new love for Hushpuppies (fried cornbread).

The next day we did my favorite activity of the trip. We went to Mount Vernon for a tour of George Washington's estate! It was unreal. I loved every hot and humid minute of it. I will even admit that at one point during the tour, I got goosebumps and teary eyed...normal...right?

Then we were off to DC! We went to the Lincoln Memorial at night which was so beautiful! The next day we went to the Air and Space Museum and the National Gallary of Art. My mom, Price, and I had too much fun together. Laughing at weird art pieces, shopping for days in the gift shops, and eating way too many treats. We also went to the SPY MUSEUM. Which was my second favorite part of the trip. If you have a minute, look it up online. It's seriously the bomb dot com. We participated in "Operation Spy" which goes beyond the museum exhibits. You are put into a group and lead through a real spy mission. It lasts an hour and is very interactive! I got so into it!! Price was a little embarassed of me...haha. I am a female spy at heart...what can I say?

That afternoon, my dad flew into DC and met up with us for dinner. He spoiled us and took us to the BEST steak restaurant in the universe. Smith and Wollensky. Google it. Salivate. Be jealous. Here is a picture of Price's dessert that was too good for words. They called it "Drunken Donuts". In other words, homemade powedered donuts with three kinds of jam. They were gone in about 2.5 seconds.

The next day we took a quick tour of the Capitol and then got in the rental car and headed for Raleigh, NC. It took about six hours, with a stop in between for a tour of Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson. He was a brilliant man with so many cool ideas and inventions. Reminded me of my dad so much.

We finally arrived in North Carolina at our friends, the Deavers. The next day we headed to Emerald Isle for a few relaxing days at the beach. Those days consisted of DQ blizzards, late night movies, many rounds of Balderdash, more fried food, boogie boarding, shell collecting, and lots of good conversation. All in all, it was a great week. I learned so much and had so much fun doing it!
